Windows 7 compatible rippers?

I'm having an awful time ripping consistently from my DVD's since I upgraded all of my computers to Windows 7.  My method was to use the latest free version of DVDShrink (which was last updated over 4 years ago, so its kinda old).  They came out with a Windows 7 compatible version which I purchased thinking it would do the trick, but you have to rip an ENTIRE episode.  You can't break it up into smaller parts like you could on the original (at least not that I could tell).  The old version of DVDShrink does still rip about 75% of the time, but I need it to work ALL the time.  I've tried other rippers (at least demoed them) and none of the ones I found let you take small bits AND/OR they take forever to rip (HOURS or overnight).  Help!  Is there a (preferably free) ripper out there that works with Windows 7 and doesn't force you to rip the whole episode or take so much time that it's basically useless?
